Football Legend, Peter Anieke Dies By Judith Frank Edet 12:05 pmApril 22, 20150 News Known for his great defence skills and goal scoring, former green eagles player, Peter Anieke has died.
He died on the 20th of April after an unsuccessful battle with acute rheumatism and arthritis.
Peter started his soccer career in 1967, playing for local football leagues after which he moved to the National team in ’70s .
He was popularly called ‘Eusebio of Africa’ due to his goal scoring skills and was a household name for his sterling performance for Stationery Stores and Green Eagles. He also represented Nigeria at the 1968 Olympic Games hosted by Mexico and his exploit with the famous Lagos team, Stationery Stores, will never be forgotten by fans of the club.
He is among few Nigerian strikers to score in his debut for Green Eagles.
He died at the age of 68 is survived by a wife and 6 children.
