About five out of the 13 prisoners who escaped from Koton Karfe prison in the wee hours of Saturday has been re-arrested. The Controller-General of Prisons, Ja’afaru Ahmed said.
This is contained in a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Service, Francis Enobore, and made available to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja.
According to the statement, Mr Ja’afaru said during his inspection of the prison that the inmates have re-arrested through the collaboration of other security agencies and local vigilante groups
The Controller-General established a three-man panel to investigate the details of the situation surrounding the escape of the suspects.
He promised to ensure that something is done about the prison congestion especially for those who are awaiting trial. He added that security measures are being tightened around the prison area so as to be able to avoid any future occurrence.
The 180- capacity all male prison facility inaugurated in 2014 accommodated 263 inmates as at the time of the jail break.
