You’ve heard Carry dey go. You know the lyrics to Not the girl. You love With this woman. And, you’re bumping and dancing to More.
And right now, you’re about to experience even ‘more’ as Darey Art Alade, the multi-talented singer-songwriter, finally gets set to release his long-awaited second solo album – un.DAREY.ted.
The full album, scheduled for release on March 31, 2009, marks the beginning of a new chapter in the artist’s exciting career: he’s now signed to a new label Soul Muzik; he’s taken his romance with R&B/Soul to the altar; and he’s hoping to break new grounds with new materials, looking forward to eventually occupying that position that his success at Project Fame prepared him for.
All through the un.DAREY.ted album, it is clear to see that Darey is in his comfort suite, having fun, painting different images with his superb voice, and doing a marathon, on a path many had hitherto though was ‘a no go area’ for the Nigerian artiste.
‘We wanted to make an album that has proper character’, Darey says. ‘You know, not dangling here and there. And I’m glad that we were able to come up with something I’m proud to present to my people. If you love life, if you love good music and if you, in particular love R&B/Soul, I’m certain you’ll love what we’ve done. You’ll be proud of us’.
The album will be released on Soul Muzik. Tracks to look forward to include ‘Style na Style’ (featuring 9ice), ‘Let You Know’ (featuring Pheel), ‘Se Ti Gbo’ (featuring Naeto C), ‘No Stars’ and ‘Go a.k.a She Said’.
The album was produced by Tee-Y-Mix and Cobhams Asuquo. ‘It’s been a real pleasure working with Darey’, Tee-Y told reporters in Lagos this week. ‘It was fun for me. And I hope there’ll be more opportunities to work together in future’’.
The album will also be released online and will be available on the likes of iTunes, Amazon and other online stores, for fans outside Nigeria and those who are not immediately able to get the hard copy.
Meanwhile, as part of efforts to give back to a society that has nurtured and supported him, Darey is planning to give back, through a TV show called ‘The Most un.DAREY.ted show.’
To be aired on Silverbird Television, the show seeks to randomly discover talented individuals from several areas where Darey grew up; areas he considers a part of his journey to self discovery.
‘We’ve been on the streets recording. And please watch out, ‘cos the show will be on TV soon’, Darey promised. One lucky individual, who will emerge ‘the most un.DAREY.ted, will win N1m on ‘The most un.DAREY.ted show.
Darey’s debut album From Me 2 U, containing the hit cuts Fuji and Escalade, was released by Storm Records in 2006.
