The Actors’ Guild of Nigeria have condemned in its entirety the kidnap of Nollywood actress, Nkeiru Syvalnus, thereby calling on the five South Eastern governors to stand up to the challenges of fighting insecurity in the region, which according to them affects the safety of their members.

The members who took to a peaceful protest at the Imo State government house recalled that with the rise of insecurity in the region, that the security of their members are no longer guaranteed.

Speaking on behalf of the members, the South East National Vice-President of the guild, Barrister Ikechukwu Ezenagu who bared the minds of the members described the movement as a rally, which according to him was to muster for a common purpose of sensitizing the public on the dangers of kidnapping.

In his words, “if there is anything that scares investors and tourists, it is kidnapping. And it is quite unfortunate that our young people today are buying this idea. We want to use the rally to campaign against this unfortunate situation we have found ourselves into; and to also call on the government to find a long lasting solution that will put an end to it.”

“Also, we want call on those who kidnapped one of us to please release her unconditionally. If they also want, we would want to extend our hands of friendship to them. Nollywood as an industry will create a place for them; they should know that their lives mean a lot to us and the society, as they can still put some things right which nobody could do well,” he urged.

Resulting to the peaceful protest, this came on the heels of the Special Assistant to the Imo State Governor on Public Affairs and popular Nollywood actress, Nkiru Sylvanus who was kidnapped in Owerri, the Imo State capital, last Saturday night around Concorde Hotel, where she was believed to have gone for an undisclosed engagement.

Also declaring it as being reprehensible, the Imo state Chairman of the guild, Conac Umez continued that they are not happy with the current security report of the region, which mostly affects them, the movie makers. He called on the government, especially Imo state for them to return the existed peace and security of lives, as most movie sponsors now run to other neighboring states to shoot their movies as a result of insecurity in the State.

While receiving them, the Imo State Chief of Staff, Prince Eze Madumere assured the members of the guild that the Imo government would do everything possible to maintain peace and orderliness, adding that they have undisclosed plan towards fighting insecurity in the state, and Nigeria at large.
