Many Nigerian schools have unique names. Interestingly, also, most of them are ‘international’. OLAKUNLE TAIWO examines these Nigerian schools and reasons for their unique names

IN the course of providing education for Nigerian children, many schools have sprung up under different banners. There are unique names like Fredson International School in Lagos; Facebook Nursery and Primary School in Lagos; President Barrack Obama High School in Benue State; Sedepo International School in Ibadan; AngelWings International School in Abuja; Whizkid International School in Ibadan, New Revelation Nursery School in Ibadan; Lagoon Secondary School in Lagos; High-Flier College; Helextimi International School; Kimota Science College, among others.

The above names are peculiar to private schools because their owners determine what to call them.

However, this is not in the case of public or government-owned schools whose names are in many cases mostly derived from their locations.
