Popular Yoruba actor, James Lanre Omiyinka better known as Baba Ijesha, was recently spotted at an event in Lagos by Nigeriafilms.com. He was looking happy and taking selfies with his fans. But we were able to manage to get him to talk to us on some issues. Excerpts;
What has been happening with Baba Ijesha all along?
How? Am I looking old (Laughs)?
You are looking young as ever. I mean about your works as an actor?
Owo ni (it’s money), I am happy that I am still alive and doing fine. First of all, my name is James Olarenwaju Omiyinka aka Baba Ijesha to my fans and my people (laughs).
Have you been able to recover from the robbery attack you were involved in sometimes ago?
Can I just tell you the bitter truth? I have not recovered. Because you know what it takes to get equipments for movies. So if I say I have recovered, then I am lying. But there is nothing I can do but I know God is in control.
Do you mean the police has not found the suspects?
Police? My brother, I don’t want to say much about that. You know Nigeria, you know what it takes. Yes, I reported the case to the police but nothing was done, so I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to be spending money unnecessarily so let me leave everything for God.
Do you plan to redo the movie project you lost to the robbery?
No way, it’s a big project for God sake and there is no way I can do it. Even though I have to do it again, I have to buy the same camera because if you want to submit any works to the popular cable station, they say it has to be an HD camera production which can shoot a nice movie which was when I decided to get the equipment and it wasn’t up to a month when I was robbed. So there is nothing I can do until I recover the lost works or I buy another one.
Does that mean your production is now on hold?
Yes, because the camera is too expensive.
When are you going to do another project again?
You see, God is a marvelous God, for now, I’m having difficulties and challenges that does not mean oti ton (it is finished). God is in control. This is what I tell my fans out there that love Baba Ijesha, this is someone that you love so much, they should be able to do something. How much is the camera, so that’s just it.
How do you joggle your comic character and your real person?
Well, when I am on set, that is Baba Ijesha and when I am not on set, I’m James Olarenwaju, so I can mix the two together. So I play both roles and I have played a serious minded role before even I already have one I will be working on very soon.
