Nollywood actress, Bisi Ibidapo, has called on the various Yoruba theater associations to unite as one in order to help position the movie industry.
According to the actress, another body can belong to any association or establish any association since it’s for the growth of the movie industry; there is no issue there just that we all need to understand the motive of the course we are fighting for.
“I still belong to Association of Nigeria Theater Art Practitioners (ANTP). I don’t belong to Theater and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPPAN) or The Movie Ambassadors (TMA), but I can’t blame anybody for belonging to any of these new associations. They all have their reasons for choosing where they like to be identified with. Also, those who formed the new associations have their reasons for establishing them. Personally, I don’t have any grudge against any of them. Most of the members of each of the associations are my friends. Even, a lot of them still belong to ANTP. Left to me, all I want in the industry is progress irrespective of the association you belong to. I remain a member of ANTP because everything I have achieved was through ANTP,” she noted.
Bisi who has spent about 20 years in the make-belief world, has produced movies like ‘Oyin Ade,’ which was her first movie in 2004, followed by ‘Omo Jesu’ and ‘Igboran san.’
She added that the reason for her slow pace of work is to take her time at developing quality movies and not just rush things because I always want to make a difference in the industry.
“I am not the type that likes rushing things. My aim is always do something better than the previous one. I like spending money on my movie. It takes about three years before I release my movies because before the movie is released, I might have taken it round the world and recouped the money I spent on it. I always like producing movies that make a difference in the industry. The same thing applies to acting, I mean featuring in other people’s movies. I always take my time. I don’t just accept scripts any more. May be that’s why you don’t see me in movies any how again. If I should feature in any movie, it must surely be worth it,” she disclosed.
