The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), has called on the Federal Government to revamp the various aviation agencies in order to be able to be efficient and effective in the industry.
The Assistant General Secretary of NUATE’s Mr Olayinka Abioye, said this while speaking with newsmen on Thursday in Lagos.
According to Abioye, there is need for the government to re-visit the re-occuring problem of fraudulent recruitments in the past aside the re-organisation of various directorates and departments.
“My union petitioned the government some years back about several issues in the aviation sector, especially massive fraudulent recruitments.
“These irregular recruitments whereby all manner of persons were brought into the sector have stunted the growth of staff and created disconnect in the career progression of employees within every cadre.
“We want the government to look into why people without prior experiences were brought into the aviation sector and given elevated positions like general managers because it does not speak well for productivity,’’ he said.
The agencies involved include: the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and the Accident Investigation Bureau.
