Edo guber: Knocks as Mercy Johnson campaigns for APC’s Okpebholo
Torrents of netizens have slammed Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, for endorsing Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the upcoming Edo State gubernatorial election.
The movie star, in a now-viral video, threw her weight behind Okpebholo at a rally, calling on the crowd to support the APC candidate.
She enquired, “Are you not tired? No light, water, healthcare, security and good roads. If you will vote for Senator Monday, raise your hand.
“So when you get to that field early in the morning, vote for Monday, vote for APC, vote for the broom.”
The video has, however, triggered backlash on social media, with critics accusing her of supporting the national ruling party despite the widespread economic hardship plaguing the country.
Okpebholo is in the race against Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party, LP, among others in the September 21 election.
