There is no doubt that Mobile Telephone Network (MTN) Nigeria has since its inception in the Nigerian telecommunication economy been a blessing to many.
If the truth be told, the telecoms giant from South Africa has made many Nigerians millionaires gradually and over night. Talk about those on its payroll as members of staff, those that have won millions on her various TV shows, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, MTN Project Fame West Africa, etc, and also on their promos and many other media.
When MTN took the sponsorship of the music reality TV show, MTN Project Fame, many saw the development a welcome idea, especially in making contestants and winners of the show get the necessary fame, as promised by the show organizers.
The latest big flop by MTN is in the fact that with all the three previous winners they have produced from MTN Project Fame West Africa, which it claimed too be producing talented music stars, MTN could not deem it fit to make use of any of them for its recent 10 years anniversary commercials theme song.
Each time the anniversary theme song is played on air, lots of people sing to the wonderful and good song from MTN, but alas! No single product of its music talent show of Project Fame was used in the theme song.
Was the reason for this because MTN does not believe in itself or its products (contestants and winners of Project Fame)? Why use models to perform the anniversary theme songs when they have produced good talents?
One would have thought that the likes of Chidinma, Iyanya, Mike, Tolu, Nii, Tomiwa, Yetunde, and other contestants were used to do that theme song.
For the past flaw made by MTN, one would notice that the afterlife of MTN Project Fame West Africa contestants and eventual winners are most times in the dark. We can rightly ask where is Bisola, Annet, Nii, Tolu, Tomiwa and other wonderful young talents the show produced.
Where is the promised fame?
The just concluded edition of the show, which got to its fourth season this year was won by Monica, and made her the fourth winner after the first winner, Iyanya Mbuk, Mike Anyazodor and Chidinma Ekile.
There is no doubt that from the first winner to the third, forgiving the present winner, Monica as just new in her reign, they are not near among the A-list artistes in Nigeria. Not much has been heard of Iyanya after the release of his first two singles, while near to nothing was heard of Mike but only Chidinma maybe raising the bar a little bit.
Other reality music shows done in the past have produced artistes that are ranked in the A-list category in Nigeria. We cannot forget the split group of KC Presh, Darey Art Alade, Omawumi, Sound Sultan, Platainshun Boiz and host of others.
