Rapper Wale has picked trouble with Drake over Wizkid in the hit song ‘Controlla. Wale who is proud of his root, Nigeria and who has never stopped supporting Nigerian artistes was on a radio interview that is gearing towards a cold war with Drake.
Wale said, “I’m proud of Wizkid, Davido and Olamide, and a lot of the dope sounds coming out of Nigeria.” He added “I just knew it was going to get there because the whole 60% of the swag coming out of Africa comes from Nigeria,” the Nigerian-America rapper said, adding, “I always knew Wizkid. I remember bringing the idea of signing Wizkid to Roc Nation to the guys over there, [but] that was earlier, way before this time. But I knew it was going to get there.”
Controlla has been doing amazingly great on the airwave since its release and Wale made it known that Drake sounded vocally like Wizkid “The lyrics, everything,” Wale clarified. “That’s my opinion. [Drake] is a phenomenal writer, performer, but I just feel like he sounds like Wizkid in Controlla.
He said“I do feel like [Wizkid] has a lot of influence on Controlla,” Wale continued. He cited lyrics from the track, like “take my money/have my money”, which he insists is totally Wizkid. That’s big-talk Nigeria,” Wale concluded.
