With the world cup almost at the corner, the super eagles of Nigeria will be heading to Russia in June to showcase what they are made of to the world and make Nigerians proud.
But a legendary play maker Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has advised the Nigerian populace not to expect much from the team if they want to see them succeed in Russia.
From his experience he urged that the high standards of expectation placed on the team mount pressure and this only help in low performances.
Okocha who is a fan favorite even after his retirement because of the magic he performed while adorning the famous green color jersey lent out his voice via super sports.
“It will be a huge achievement if you could get out of the group stage and after which anything can happen. “We should be careful not to set unrealistic targets for the team.”
Remembering his days as a Super Eagle’s player and captain, the former PSG man said “It doesn’t get any better to play for Nigeria. It was not for the money, but the pride to represent 160 million people is priceless. It was the pinnacle of my career. “Football is not just a sport in Nigeria, it’s not just part of the religion or the culture, it is life. “It is a great opportunity to eradicate poverty with football. “With football, we have a voice,” he said.
