In Nigeria, Domestic violence is gradually becoming a norm as several cases of abuse is recorded on a daily basis. An 11 years old marriage was dissolved in Akure customary court recently on the basis of domestic violence, drunkenness and promiscuity.

The accused, Clifford Monday was said to always beat up his wife, which he boldly disclosed happens whenever she flouted his orders.

Shedding light to the situation, the victim said: “Clifford beat me during my second pregnancy to stupor and attempted to abort the pregnancy but my mother intervened. He always raised suspicion on all my movements, and had abandoned me and the three children from the marriage

The marriage was dissolved and the court ordered him to pay N10, 000 monthly to the court for the upkeep of the children. It was also ruled that he would be responsible for the education of the children. 

Meanwhile, custody of the children was awarded to his estranged wife, Bukola while he had unhindered access to the kids.

Clothing and medical bills was ruled to be the responsibilities of both parties.
