Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr has revealed that he reached out to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger over Alex Iwobi’s disciplinary issues earlier this month.
The Gunners number seventeen attended a party less than 48 hours before Arsenal’s humiliating 4-2 loss to Nottingham Forest in the Emirates FA Cup, where he was a shadow of himself.
It was thought the 21-year-old would have been dropped from the first-team squad but Wenger continues to keep faith with the winger, starting him in Arsenal’s last two matches against Chelsea and Bournemouth.
I spoke to Arsene about it and I like the way he handled it. He did it like a father, inside the house and after, he played him in the next game,” Rohr told KweséESPN.
He is a young boy, and young boys make mistakes sometimes.
I speak to all of them and we have a good relationship because we want to see the players play at a high level and train at a high level to stay fit.”
Iwobi netted the most important goal for the Super Eagles in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, a 73rd minute vs Zambia after coming off the bench.
