Desmond Ellliot If the hint within the reach of nfc is anything to go by, fine boy actor, Desmond Elliot has landed in trouble over his recent pronouncement that video clubs should be scrapped. The baby-faced actor was among the famous faces of the English genre of Nigerian movie industry, who were feted recently by Oronto Douglas, the Senior Special Assistant to President Jonathan on Research and Strategy.
Although, the idea of the informal dinner held at the Sky Bar of Eko Hotel and suites was planned to give the screen gods and goddesses the opportunity to vent their grouse about the dying movie industry, some top movie marketers and video club owners have vowed to deal with Desmond for his utterances. While Desmond might have spoken his mind, nfc scooped that some marketers, who also double as video club owners, have come together to decide that they will never sell or buy any movie that has the face of Desmond Elliot if he refuses to apologise. Pleading anonymity, one of the top executives of the Association of Video Club Owners said, “For Desmond to have made that statement, it shows that he does not know the importance of video clubs in the crisis ridden movie industry. How many people would like to waste their money on a movie with the same story lines with many parts? Apart from being a rent outlet for movies, video clubs also sell films.”
However, one of the star actors, who confided in nfc said that there is a need to regulate the activity of video clubs and total scrap is not the solution as argued by Desmond because piracy remains the bane of the movie industry. Moreover, a bird in the know squealed that Desmond’s utterances, have set some of his colleagues, who also has video clubs against him.
