It was food for thought on Sunday, May 19, when popular Nigerian comedian, actor and singer, Kofi Idowu Nuel, popularly called Kofi, took time to give Nigerian music artistes a dressing.
The event was the special church session marking the beginning of activities to mark the much publicised COSON week in Lagos.
According to the artiste, while the Copyright Society of Nigeria, COSON, was talking about making the music pay, and while Nigerian artistes were actually already making money from their songs, the issue of content and message must be taken into serious consideration.
“What lesson are we teaching our children, the future generation?” Kofi asked.
Terry G, Timaya, P-Square, D’Banj, De Prince, amongst others, all came under Kofi’s sledge hammer of words, as he decried the vulgar and obscene lyrics that most contemporary Nigerian songs are laden with.
Expressing worry, the multi-talented entertainer advised that instead of gibbering and the use of vulgar lyrics and obscene lyrics, Nigerian musicians should consider using up building and educating lyrics, which according to him, would go a long way in shaping the thoughts and focus of the future generation.
