A branch of the Christ Embassy Church in Ajao Estate, Lagos is reportedly on the verge of snatching a piece of land measuring over 900 sq meters from a widow simply known as Mrs. Oladipo
As gathered – early in 2010, one Pastor Adegoke Adu of the Christ Embassy Church approached the widow to rent the premises for the church under four year agreement for N29 million. The church then made a part payment of N2million with a promise to pay the remainder/balance in due time. And the Church immediately took over the land and started erecting canopies to commence worshipping.
The Church however reneged on the promise to make payments, as agreed. And following several demands by the widow for the balance of the rent – and the refusal to honor their obligation, the woman decided to take action. She sold the land to another party who also began construction on the premises immediately.
With the sale of the land, she approached the church to refund their N2million. Her attempts to refund the N2million to the church were rebuffed and while the new owner was carrying out construction, Christ Embassy, using members of its congregation who are policemen – cohorts with the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Marvel Akpoyibo, arrested the widow, the new buyer and other workers on site for alleged malicious damage to property.
They were hurriedly arraigned before a Yaba Magistrate Court 1, Lagos on Wednesday and at the time of filling this report; they were still being remanded in prison custody.
