It was learnt that President Mohammadu Buhari has cancelled his visit to Ogoni land in Rivers state.
Buhari was supposed to travel to the state for the inauguration of the cleaning up of the area.
The reason for the cancellation has not been out rightly stated. But report has it that it was due to the threats by militants- Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) on the life of the president Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo is expected to represent the president in the occasion.
Experts have reported that the cleanup of the Niger Delta may take 20 years or more to accomplish.
The clean-up of the Niger Delta is on the recommendation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) which submitted its report to former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011.
