The Super Falcons of Nigeria are champions of Africa again after defeating the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in the final of the Africa Women Cup of Nations in Yaoundé.
Desire Oparanozie scored the lone goal for Nigeria in the 84th minute with a well-placed shot after a defensive lapse by the very impressive Cameroonians.
It was a difficult match for the Nigerian girls who had to struggle with the Cameroonians’ physical strength for most of the match.
Nigerians have now won their eight Africa Women Cup of Nations trophy and remain the most successful African women’s team.
Nigeria and Cameroon have now met ten times in all competitions with Nigeria having a better record having won eight of those matches.
Coach of the Nigerian team, Florence Omagbemi, has also made history by becoming the first individual to win the AWCON as a player and a coach.
