Following reports that Professor Yemi Osibajo has emerged APC’s Vice Presidential candidate, notable Nigerian singer, Banky W has described the reputable lawyer’s selection as inappropriate.

Banky W, who took to his Twitter handle to lament the development, said that Lagos state governor, Babtunde Raji Fashola (SAN) should have been picked, instead of Osibajo, who once served as Attorney-General of Lagos State.

According to reports, Osibajo was picked because he is a Christian and Fashola a Muslim as the party recently ruled out a Muslim/Muslim ticket for the 2015 presidential election.

Fashola, though a Muslim has achievements as governor of Lagos State and has won the admiration of some Nigerians, especially residents of Lagos.

For Banky W, religion does not matter when it comes to choosing who leads the country. He said Fashola, with his track record in Lagos State, would have been a better choice.

“Who cares if Fashola is a Muslim? Didn’t we vote him into power in Lagos? Did the fact that he’s Muslim affect the way he lead the state?” he queried.

“Now, all of a sudden, religion and tribe are controlling our every decision. We’ve fallen so far from what we used to be.

“I don’t choose who to do business with based on if they’re from my village. I don’t choose who to associate with based on their religion.

“Some of my mentors, clients, business partners, colleagues are from different tribes and religions than mine. What difference does it make?

“Abiola won the election (in a landslide) on a Muslim-Muslim ticket. Wasn’t that the same country? It didn’t matter then. Why does it now?” the singer ranted.
