Our people, please, I hope we have seen it at the police stations ”BAIL IS FREE” along side the well known “Police Is Your Friend”.
We are not talking about the money taken from drivers along the express way but the one taken as bail.Last time we checked, bail is the temporary release of an accused person , or a suspect, from police custody pending the conclusion of investigations or the final determination of the case, on the condition that he would report to the police station when necessary or attend court for trial, so the question is, what is bail money for?
Are there any records of such payments kept? Are receipts given for those payments? Assuming you are not guilty of the offence, can you retrieve this ‘ bail money’?
The good news is that bail is free and the bad news is that it is not free. We are yet to find out what bail money is used for.
