The last might not have been heard about the murder case allegation hanging on the former Glo Ambassador and singer, Sunday Osakunni, a. k.a. Ekwe. The family of Mrs Rekhia Osakunni, the deceased wife of Ekwe has stated the need for the deceased killer(s) to be brought to book. In a statement signed by Mr Usman Ibrahim on behalf of the family, they said “following the senseless and brutal murder of our daughter in Lagos on April 13, 2012, we the family of Idris have decided that our daughter cannot die without justice against the perpetrators of this evil deed.”
The deceased family argued that the death of Osakunni was “most brutal, and has brought great pain and sorrow to the entire family” adding that “the death has been confirmed to be due to strangulation by the doctor’s autopsy report, signed by Dr A N Awolola of Lagos University Teaching Hospital. Therefore, we know that it was done by somebody. This confirms the suspicions of the family that our daughter did not die a natural death.
The statement read in part: “Following the controversial union of our daughter and Sunday Osakunni, (Stereoman), which we never supported, marred by wife battery, fights and other forms of abuse by her husband, we hold that Sunday Osakunni never loved our daughter, and therefore used her. What happened after he got tired of her, which led to the death of their first child, as well as her own death is what we pray that the Nigerian judiciary unravel for the sake of humanity.
‘’We are therefore seeking justice, and the first hearing to this case shall come up on Monday, 10th July, 2012 at Court 7, Ebutte Metta Lagos at 9 am. In our pursuance of justice, we are hereby praying all media to make this information available to the general public as their own little way of fighting against the abuse of women and children in all forms.”
Meanwhile, Ekwe, who is currently being detained at State Criminal Investigative Department, SCID, Panti, was reported to have told detectives that he and Rekia had been having constant quarrels for a long time after the birth of their son. He was said to have told the police that he packed out of their house in Satellite Town, Lagos. He said his wife could not afford to renew the rent and she was evicted by the landlord. Ekwe was said to have told the police that since he separated from his wife, he had no contacts with her.
In addition, Ekwe had in an interview with a national daily before the incident, said, ‘’I am not the first to have a child outside marriage. I don’t want to marry her, and she is trying to force me. I don’t want her in my life; she only torments me with her nagging. Whatever she told you is meant to rubbish my personality, but God knows which the truth is.’’
