The leadership tussle that would have torn the Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) apart has now been resolved with the association reaching a consensus on how to choose its leaders.
The consensus was reached on Monday during a meeting held at the Flora Hotel, Old Ife Road, Ibadan, Oyo State.
At the meeting, it was gathered that the Board of Trustees (BOT), elders and other members of the association came together and endorsed Mr. Victor Ashaolu as the next president.
Ashaolu was contesting along with the duo of Yemi Sholade and Dele Odule.
Before the commencement of the meeting, it was reported that the three aspirants had met with elders and promised to abide by the decision reached at the end of the meeting, and they also pledged to support whoever emerged as a consensus candidate.
The meeting, which started around 5.00 p.m and ended by 9.00 p.m, had people like Chief Jimoh Aliu (BOT’s chairman), Chief Lere Paimo and Alhaja Lanre Hassan a.k.a. Iya Awero (members), all the national elders, the aspirants and their groups in attendance.
Reacting to the issue, Dele Odule refuted the claim, saying what happened at the said meeting could never be accepted anywhere in the world.
