Plans to revive the rested television drama, the Village Headmaster, may have suffered a setback as another member of the original cast, Chief Leke Ajao, a.k.a. Kokonsari, died on Tuesday.
Ajao, who played the role of the Ifa priest of the Oja Village, died in his home town, Iwo, Osun State. He was in his 60s.
Though the cause of his death could not be ascertained, there were indications that he developed a sickness that claimed his life before he could be rushed to the hospital.
A versatile actor, Ajao has featured in many films, both English and Yoruba.
The creator of the Village Headmaster, Ambassador Segun Olusola, expressed dismay over the loss. Describing the death as “one more talent gone”, he acknowledged what the loss meant to the plans to revive the drama.
With Ajao’s death, the number of the Village Headmaster cast members who have died has increased to five. Others who have passed on are Oba Funso Adeolu who played the role of Chief Eleyinmi. He was the Alaye of Ode-Remo.
There was also the Oba of Aramoko-Ekiti, Oba Wole Amele, who played Councillor Balogun; Mr. Joe Layode, a.k.a. Teacher Garuba; and Elsie Olusola, a.k.a Sisi Clara.
