Chairman of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Anambra State chapter, Chief Samson Obidinma, has called on the state Governor, Willie Obiano, to construct a film village in Awka which he says would serve as a tourist centre.
According to the state AGN boss, the film village will help generate income for Anambra State and also serve as a centre for which entertainers could use for relaxation.
He added that this is necessary as the Nollywood industry has been able to take some graduates off the streets by getting gainfully employed in the movie industry.
Obidinma also stated that as the third largest movie producers in the world, after the United States’ Hollywood and India’s Bollywood, the Nigerian ‘Nollywood’ is equally a foreign exchange earner for the nation.
The call was made during the guild’s Democracy Charity Carnival held in Awka on Sunday, where the group visited the Awka Prisons and donated some gift items to the inmates.
