AGN: Halima Abubakar suspended over alleged slander
Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar has been suspended by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) over an alleged slander of her colleagues.
Abubakar’s suspension was made public by the association in a statement posted on Instagram on Friday.
AGN maintained that it reached the decision to place the movie star on indefinite suspension after an extensive internal investigation found her guilty.
It stressed that Abubakar was found guilty of defaming AGN’s members, associates and patrons, adding that she also accused high-profile individuals in the society of extramarital affairs.
During the suspension, the actress is barred from participating in any film or AGN-related activities.
The guild emphasised that she would face a disciplinary panel to determine further consequences.
The AGN’s statement partly read, “Following a thorough investigative report by the special Secret Investigation Panel, which was tasked with looking into activities of some blogs and bloggers since 2022, it was concluded that Miss Halima Abubakar was behind the defamatory information targeting our members, associates, and patrons.”
The statement also noted that several female members of the AGN are still under investigation following the recent release of names linked to controversial reports involving high-ranking individuals in Nigerian society.
The guild concluded by commending the investigative panel for its professionalism, reaffirming its commitment to monitoring Halima’s compliance with the suspension order.
Violations of the terms of her suspension could lead to further disciplinary action, the statement added.
