The African Fashion Week which is aimed at showcasing emerging Nigerian and African designers all over the world will kick off with a street catwalk at the Palms mall in Victoria Island on Saturday June 25,2016.
The theme for the 2016 African Fashion Week Nigeria is “Connecting Africa”. Speaking at a press conference held on 21st July at Eko Hotel Victoria Island was the Founder of the international fashion show, Ms Ronke Ademiluyi who gave a run down on how the show started in London and how it was brought down to Nigeria. She noted that the 2016 event will be a mind blowing one that will leave every one dazed. She encouraged Nigerians to be part of this great fashion event.
Also the Creative Director of AFWN/AFWL Mr.Sola Oyebade said that people are yet to get over the 2015 fashion event. He furthered that the 2016 AFWN will be the biggest show ever with 68 designers from various African countries to showcase their brand.
According to him,” We shall have about 68 designers from Kenya, Morrocco, Cameroun, Cotonou, Ghana, Uganda, and so on to show case their brand in just two days over four shows.
“We want to give new aspiring designers the platform to show case themselves, develop their brand and make names for themselves all over the world just like we have done in the past.”
Speaking about the Gala night, he stated that the Nigeria Next Top Designer grand finale will be held on Sunday 3rd of July by 1pm with 21 designers who will all be showcasing their brand. He advised that everyone should be part of the show because it promises to be very entertaining.
Mr. Lucky Idike who spoke on the collaboration of the Bank of Industry and NEPC with AFWN 2016 said the Bank of Industry has made available 30million naira for fashion designers to grow their business. He stated that there will be a master class during the program that will help to teach designers how to access these funds.
