Popular cable channel, AfricaMagic has debuted a platform for filmmakers in Nigeria called ‘Original Films’. The new platform, according to information made available to Nigeriafilms.com, is aimed at promoting and supporting the “thriving Nigerian film industry which will in turn ensure AfricaMagic audience get the best in an array of films made in Nigeria.”
Speaking on why the initiative was conceived, the Managing Director of M-Net Africa, Mrs. Biola Alabi, said the “focus for us at M-Net Africa is to contribute to the further growth and development of the African film and television industry.”
She added that, “more importantly, we will continue to lend our support and expertise to the creation and showcasing of original African content and these 136 films to be produced under the AfricaMagic Original Films umbrella represents a great leap in our support of the growth of the film industry.”
Abiola also said that, “our brand, AfricaMagic, is dedicated to showcasing entertainment for Africa, by Africa, and thus ensuring that the rich and vibrant stories and legacies of Africa are told for Africans across the continent and beyond.”
AfricaMagic Original Films will premiere on AfricaMagic Entertainment, channel 151 on the DStv Premium bouquet, on Saturday, October 5th 2013. The first feature films will include; The Undertaking, Protégé, The Night Raid, each starring some of the biggest names and new entrants in the Nigerian film industry.
