In recent times, many celebrities have declared their intention to join politics, which to some Nigerians, is the quickest way to make money. The latest Nigerian celebrity to have made his intention known to swim in the murky water of Nigerian politics is popular comedian, Daniel Chibuzor Nnwoka popularly known as Dan Tha Humorous.
The humour merchant recently announcement that he will hope to be in the Rivers State House of Assembly in 2015 representing Ikerre Constituency of the state. According to him, he has always been told that he would be a leader of tomorrow, stating that his tomorrow is now here.
Confirming this, he said, “Entertainment is a noble profession in the same league as every other profession you can think of, with great pay cheques and tax certificates to show for it. If a lawyer, doctor, professor, banker, nurse, engineer can take a break from their fields to answer the clarion call to serve his/her people, so can a comedian leave the sacrosancitity of his stage and do the same. For those who think the new breed democratic movement is a joke, no its not”
He went further to say “comedy is a serious business for one man shows in two years, is as serious as digging up an oil well. Politics is not a vocation but a call to service born out of passion, will and zeal to lead the people, as Tonye Princewill will say, ‘politics is too important to be left in the hands of politicians’.”
