4kasibe crooner and creator, Kingsley Eliogu aka Zeez has refuted the many gists making the rounds on radio and magazine, about his health and particularly his source of income.
Describing them as mere rumours and malicious scheming of over ambitious journalists who have at one time or the other made monetary demands from him which he did not oblige, Zeez has reacted via his manager.
In a telephone call put across to us, Zeez’s manager Tunde Peters cried foul in the treatment meted out to his artiste by select media houses. According to him, in the latest edition of a Lagos based soft sell magazine, Top Celebrity, a cover piece written by a certain writer (name withheld) informed that Zeez makes money through illegal means chief among which is ‘yahoo yahoo’ (internet fraud).
He said that the writer went on to say that the singer had bought twenty (20) laptops and distributed among ‘yahoo boys’ for whom he also threw a party. Further allegations by the writer include that the singer had actually bought his present ride, a Cadillac CTS, from proceeds of the business (internet fraud).
Although Zeez and Tunde have stormed the media house asking for a retraction and the management of the media house have apologised for the grave errors, Tunde wishes to put the record straight that his artiste makes his money through legitimate means. Zeez is first a producer, a singer and also a IT contractor with BBC, according to Tunde. ‘The guy is not a yahoo guy. He’s a IT contractor with BBC and that’s his main source of income. He also has an audiovisual studio in Allen,’ he defended.
Also reacting to a rumour being peddled about the Nigerian Broadcast Commission (NBC) banning the hit song, 4kasibe, the manager says ‘its untrue’. ‘NBC did not ban 4kasibe. Even Keke (Ogungbe) and D-One were once asked at the NBC office what the word means and they explained that it’s a street slang.
The other day at NTA, imagine professors and doctors praising his (Zeez) genius when they heard the meaning that he created out of the street slang and then some people are busy cooking up rumours about a ban’, he reiterated.
The manager said immediately the news reached them they had to start calling up on-air radio personalities to confirm the news and they (OAPs) denied receiving any circular to that effect from the commission. It will be recalled that the NBC had in time past banned popular songs with perceived foul content.
Examples of which are ‘Pass me the Ganja’ by pop singer 9ice and ‘Konga’ by Konga.
In the midst of these career threatening rumours milling around, fans from Ife in Osun state have been calling the singer to wish him quick recovery for an accident that never occurred. The manager explains that he has had to reply with prayers and ‘God forbid’.
He says it’s a second time that such rumour about a fatal car accident involving the singer, Zeez, and his crew was being peddled.
Tunde says Zeez is working hard trying to consolidate on his gradually rising fame and has no time to perpetrate anything illegal. His present ride was a gift presented to him by his UK based record label- Edlyne records- on the day of his album launch in January this year.
The singer who’s always fancied information technology, has a certificate from the Nigerian Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) and intends to further his education by studying for a degree at the Lead University, Ibadan, Oyo state, later in life.
Hence the singer confesses that he is not yet a student of the university and has not at any point in time said he was studying in the college. Thus putting an end to media reports that he lied about being a student of the institution.
‘We don’t want to make any legal suites yet, its too early’, Tunde ended.
