• Zeb Ejiro’s secret moves to corner fund exposed
A 65 million dollars intervention fund, earmarked by the World Bank for disbursement to Nigerian film makers is said to be secretly being cornered by a small click in Nollywood stakeholders led by Zed Ejiro, the self styled sheik of the industry.
Others involved in the secret move are current president of the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), Bond Emeruwa, Mathias Obayiagbon, Chico Ejiro and two others.
What has become baffling to most stakeholders spoken to, by this development is how a fund, from a notable body like the world bank and meant to be handed to the government of Nigeria as loan for film makers in Nigeria is being discussed by a handful of producers in a Hotel room in Abuja.
In her response, when here views were sought concerning the ugly development, notable film maker, Amaka Igwe said she believed the issue should be brought in the open rather than at clandestine meetings between the bank and a few stakeholders.
“There is need to discuss how the fund would be received and disbursed. How can they receive something on behalf of the whole Nollywood, when most stakeholders are not even aware of the existence of the fund”,
“It is even more annoying that the issue is not being discussed under any recognizable platform as the Motion Picture Council of Nigeria {MOPICON}, or through the guilds in Nollywood”, she asserted.
https://www.nigeriafilms.com learnt that a petition on this development has already been sent to the minister of Information and Combination, Professor Dora Akunyili, under whose ministry, control for the Movie Industry falls.
Stakeholders are crying out before the fund goes into wrong hands, because according to Mrs. Igwe, “The fund is not coming as a dash, it is coming as a loan that must be repaid”.
