A British Bishop from the mother church of the world wide Anglican faith has publicly stated during an interview session that he is gay.
The Bishop identified as Nicholas Chamberlain, the Bishop of Grantham in central England who happens to be the first gay Bishop in the Church of England disclosed how he has been in a long-term relationship with his male partner.
In his words, “It was not my decision to make a big thing about coming out,”
“People know I’m gay, but it’s not the first thing I’d say to anyone. Sexuality is part of who I am, but it’s my ministry that I want to focus on.”
He also added that he church knew he was gay before he was made a Bishop.
“I was myself. Those making the appointment knew about my sexual identity.”
Speaking about the gay Bishop in the Anglican Communion, the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, described Chamberlain’s sexuality as “completely irrelevant”.
“His appointment as Bishop of Grantham was made on the basis of his skills and calling to serve the church in the diocese of Lincoln,” he added.
“He lives within the bishops’ guidelines and his sexuality is completely irrelevant to his office.”
The gay Bishop described his relationship as a loving one.
Meanwhile, the Anglican Church of Uganda had stated in 2014 that may consider breaking away from their mother church in England if the country is put under pressure over its tough anti-homosexuality law.
