Recently, retired Nigerian US based singer, Eldee D Don, revealed that for some time now, he has been hearing some Nigerian sound in some studios but stepping inside the studio, he does not get to see any Nigerian artiste.
He was fast to conclude that the Western artistes were beginning to accept the Nigerian sound but were not ready to work with the music producers themselves and this Mavin records boss, don Jazzy, has just confirmed.
Don Jazzy in a recent interview with Boiler room in collaboration with British Council, stated that most of the American singers are scared of working with him.
He explained that some of them have contacted him and after making a beat for them, they want him to modify it to sooth their own sound and when he does not accept, they walk out.
“Most of these American artistes would call you, they believe you have something that they like, so they call you to come and try something out.”
“A bunch of people that I have tried to work with or have tried to work with me chicken out at the end of the day because they aren’t really ready for the music change; they want me to tweak it till it gets back to their sound.
“I can give you your sound, but then, you called me for something and then I try to give to my sound and I want you to do your thing on top of it which would give the sound a wider recognition but they say they aren’t ready for this switch drastically. I think they are still scared.”
