Legendary Afro-Beat singer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who through his music, fought for the freedom of his Nigerian people and was jailed in the process while his house was burnt down by the Military government, is one man that cannot just be forgotten easily.
Fela has been able to leave his name in the sand of time as today, August 2nd, marks the remembrance of the singer since he departed this sinful world.
Through his music, Fela was able to predict the future and also fight the ill administrations of various governments that many had to look up to him anytime things were going wrong in the country.
Born 15 October 1938, the singer died on 2nd August 1997, after a brief illness and today makes it 19 years he left his people.
One of Fela’s sons, Seun Kuti, could not hide how much he misses his father as he writes; “19 years a god. 19 years an Orisha. 19years an ancestor!! And by the way the Egypt 80 is still kicking ass.”
