Maj. Gen. Alfred Nelson William, the Deputy High Commissioner of Sierra Leone in Nigeria who was abducted enroute Abuja-Kaduna last Friday has been freed.

He was rescued by the police during a rescue mission on Tuesday. He was later reunited with his family and High commission.

Donald Awunah , the Force Public Relations who confirmed the incident said in an SMS,” the ambassador was released at about 16:00hrs along Abuja- Kaduna Road.

“Following credible intelligence and technical support, there was intense police activities on both land and air patrol within the area. The General is feasibly in good condition.

“The acting IGP, Ibrahim Idris, wishes to assure the members of the Diplomatic Corps and other foreign nationals of their safety and security in Nigeria.”

His kidnappers  had made a request of N30m ransom during negotiations with embassy officials but the police did not disclose if any ransom was paid or not.
