Following the fundamental human right suits filed by the ex- Minister of Aviation, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode that sought the order for the court to grant him permission to be released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. A Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court sitting in Apo, Abuja has struck out his request.
Fani Kayode who happened to be the spokesman of the Goodluck Jonathan 2015 Campaign Organisation had filed a suit after his arrest by the men of the anti-corruption agency on May 9, 2016 over allegation of diverting the funds that was supposed to be used for the purchase of arms. It was learnt that he used it for political campaigns.
He was arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lagos alongside ex- Minister of Finance, Nenadi Usman, and former Director of Finance of the campaign organization with others for money laundering.
Justice Olukayode Adeniyi who presided over the case on Wednesday said that the legal action does not have merit. He added that the detention followed due process with the backing of an order of court.
The judge berated the style of anti-graft agency of arresting and detaining a suspect for the purposes of investigation.
