The era of monopoly in Nigerian cinema market is over as Genesis Deluxe Cinema (GDC) opens its door to cinema lovers in Lagos come December 12 at The Palms Shopping Centre, Lekki.
GDC is a six screens cinema (meaning six viewing rooms in one building) which will be screening blockbuster movies from all over the world. According to report from the company, GDC will be showing movies from top studios allover the world such as 20th Century Fox, Warners Bros, Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures, Universal, Paramount Picture and Disney.
In an interactive session with journalists, Kene Mkparu, the MD of GDC, said the company is set to offer a whole new experience. Kene who has worked in UK at Odion Cinemas for several years said “from our experience in the UK and all over the world, we intend to offer nothing but the best cinema experience”
Other offers from the stable of GDC are food chain, film café, film box office and smoody pod. Another unique offer from the company is introduction of two luxury cinema classes-the deluxe and gold class. According to the statement signed by Mary Ephraim, the luxury classes are expected to enhance film with comfy leather seating, exclusive bar section, and a whole range of exciting give away. GDC will be the first to bring this world class experience to West Africa.
GDC management team has over 90 years combined experience in cinema operation and that is one edge the company has ahead of others.
Talk is already rife that the company is set to battle Silverbird, the company that seems to be enjoying monopoly in the market to a stand still. Aside the massive parking lot the company enjoys inside Palms Shopping Center, the company is also introducing various customers’ friendly products to wrestle customers from its rival. And plans are already in top gear to move to mainland such as FESTAC, Ikeja, Agege and outside Lagos such as Port Harcout, Kano and Abuja.
The fact that the cinema is located inside The Palms, an upscale shopping center is also counting for it against its rival located on the island. With resident shop inside Silverbird complaing of poor sales, this might be the time for GDC to stamp its authority on the market and prove that 90 years experience is no joke.
