FOLLOWING the crisis that attended the Yoruba Music and Film Awards dinner night, at LTV 8 premises where the windscreen of my newly acquired Chrysler Sedan 2007 car was damaged, I was still reported badly”
The above ranting came from Saheed Akorede Okunola better known as Osupa, on Monday at his Surulere, Lagos residence, while reacting to newspapers’ headlines, concerning the musical show, saying “it is very unfair. Can you imagine, no newspaper tried to know my view, before concluding that, Osupa was at it again.
“I had wanted to go to court, but after wider consultations, my lawyer advised that I should shelve it, for my bad press is as a result of my recent elevation, eyed by many. So, I’ve to pay a big price for my stardom. Again, to guard against untoward reporting, I want to plead with journalists to always air my view, before writing their stories. By this, I’d be very happy,” Saheed Osupa hinted.
On what happened, Osupa said, “till now, it leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Anywhere Osupa is, naturally will become centre of attraction-before, during and after. This is not my making God made it so. It is a big disgrace, where the so-called FUMAN President was in attendance and unity, peace and security of Fuji musicians could not be guaranteed; then he does not merit the position and any reverence. My car’s windscreen was damaged in his presence, he didn’t talk. As a civilised person, I went to report officially and went into action. I don’t want to say much because the security operatives are on the investigation.”
The crisis that was about to tear members of Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria (FUMAN) apart recently has finally been resolved. In order to put FUMAN’s house in order, the chairman Disciplinary Committee, Alhaji Tajudeen Ayinla a.k.a. Taju System said nobody is bigger than the association, adding that if anybody should do anything to tarnish the image of FUMAN, he would be sanctioned.
Last weekend, the National Working Committee of FUMAN and the Board of Trustees (BOT) comprising Alhaji Barrister, Kollington, K1 de Ultimate, Fancy Aye Alamu and Iyanda Sawaba held a meeting in Ibadan where the BOT ordered the NWC to use its power, in line with the constitution of the association, to clean up the house of FUMAN.
At the meeting of the NWC, it was resolved that any FUMAN member that sings abusive songs and portrays behaviour not befitting of the person, such a person would be expelled from the association.
It was also resolved that before any fuji musician could release any record, such record must be censored by the NWC.
Reacting to Osupa’s case who had been earlier alleged of assaulting Saka Orobo and Kollington, singing abusive songs, false accusation and defamation of character, the NWC resolved that Osupa must face the music.
Meanwhile, in all the offences levelled against him (Osupa), he admitted being guilty of assaulting the National President of FUMAN and General Kollington, saying that all he did during the Yoruba Music and Films Awards was not intentional.
He denied ever singing any abusive songs. The NWC also found out that Sule Malaika was innocent of the allegation levelled against him by Osupa.
Saheed Osupa was penalised over his misbehaviour to the two leaders of FUMAN — Saka Orobo and General Kollington. The NWC ordered that he (Osupa) should pay a token of N500,000 to the FUMAN’s coffers as fine. But the fine was later reduced to N250,000 after a series of pleas.
immediately issued the cheque of the said amount. He was also ordered to write a letter of apology to General Kollington, Saka Orobo and FUMAN in general.
