Storm Records rapper, Ikechuwku Onunaku has stepped up his game. The rapper, popularly called Killz has been busy romancing the team of showbiz entrepreneurs at Mo Hits Records. And now, he’s getting the dividends.
First, following an unimpressive debut (my name is Ikechukwu), he teamed up with Don jazzy and D’Banj to cook the cut, Wind am well – securing for himself a place on the charts, and making sure award organisers have no choice but look his way. Then he conscripted DJ T to direct a promo video that took a permanent residence on MTV base and Channel O. Any surprise he was named best male act at the 2008 Channel O Music Video Awards? Any surprise he’s up for the upcoming MAMAs, in the best video category?
The returnee rapper has redefined his art, and it’s easy for many to forget he’s that aggressive, energetic and restless rapper that returned from the US barely three years ago after plying his rap trade in the US for years.
And while his elder sister Uru is still searching for an entry point into the Nigerian music scene, Ikechukwu is reaping the benefits of homecoming; the benefits of consistency. And now, the latest testimony of his success is a brand new Range Rover sports.
Sources close to the rapper told e-Punch he got the Black SUV at about N8 million, and is considering having his pseud Killz inscribed on the number plate.
The rapper’s only car before now was an old model BMW.
And to show he’s enjoying his new status, the rapper is releasing a new song advising fellow rappers to dump the deep, keep-it-real attitude, and fashion their art in a manner that’ll guarantee returns. The song, titled Shaykpey, according to the rapper’s rep, tells all “deep, lyrical rappers that if they continue this way, the will shaykpey for themselves and end up broke.’’ ‘‘It’s just to go a little bit commercial for the bread (money).’’
