Lawal Olalekan Olumo, fondly called Konga, came into prominence after he released his controversial single, ‘Baby Konga’, which was later knocked with the big hammer of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
According to the musician, the NBC knock forced him into an compulsory ‘holiday’ from the music scene.
The song was banned from the Nigerian airwaves, according to the NBC, due to the use of a vulgar language.
But Konga explained that after the song was yanked off broadcast stations in Nigeria, he went back to the drawing board to retrace his steps.
He told Tribune that, “I have always prayed to God to lift me up and let me achieve my dreams in life. Although that situation scared me, it did not discourage me.
“It, however, made me to withdraw a little bit, to check my language, to make sure that whatever I am bringing is well worded. I want to make sure that everyone who hears me attests that I am a world-class musician. It was a challenge that has put me on the right path.”
