After several adjournments over the failure of the defendant to appear in court, the presiding judge at Mapo Customary Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, Chief Ademola Odunade, has finally opened the case of divorce between Ramon and Morufat Morenikeji for hearing.
Ramon, a middle-aged man, is praying the court to dissolve his marriage to his wife, Morufat, over her truancy and uncaring attitude towards her family.
The plaintiff said that he married the defendant a virgin and the marriage was blessed with three children.
According to him, “My lord, my wife is not a straight forward person. If she says she is going to Badagry, she will be seen at Osogbo. She is a complete liar and too sociable.
“I reported her to her parents, she refused to yield to their advice. She always abandons her family to follow friends to parties every weekend.
“Recently, I reported her attitude to her parents and they called her immediately. I expected her to go and see them, instead, she went to my mother to drop the children and walked away.
“Since then, she has not returned home.
“My lord, I am tired of this marriage. Please separate us.”
In his ruling, the presiding judge, Chief Ademola Odunade, said: “Having observed that the defendant was intentionally absent from court, and now the defendant has brought the children to the plaintiff’s family, the court hereby dissolves the eight-year-old marriage between the couple”.
The court also ordered that a copy of the judgement should be sent to the defendant.
