Judge Hassan Ishaq on Friday advised five young men standing trial for the offence of constituting public nuisance to be of good behavior.

Ishaq while admonishing the youths advised them to go back to school or learn a trade, if they had no serious means of livelihood.

“ Go back to your villages and farm or go back to school, or better still, learn a trade’’.

“ Mere seeing you guys sitting idle at a black spot is an offence and the next time you are arraigned before me on a similar charge, you will face the full wrath of the law’’, he said.

The Judge, after these making remarks, sentenced the accused persons to 2 months imprisonment each with an option of N5,000 fine each.

He also ordered them to write an undertaking with the court that they would not repeat a similar offence.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Stephen Okwu-Agwu, had earlier informed the court that the five accused persons were arrested by the anti-crime patrol policemen dispatched from Karu Police station on April 16.

He said that Odobi Ernest, Eregba Sunday, Ekpo Raymond, Samuel John and Agbo Odobi were arrested by a team of policemen on patrol from Karu Police Station beside Commerce Plaza, Karu, Abuja, where “criminals are known to gather”.

He said they could not give a satisfactory explanation to the police as to why they were gathered there.

According to him, the offence of public nuisance contravened section 183 of the penal code.

The accused persons pleaded guilty to the charge. (NAN)
