The Nollywood industry has basically been hinged on three sections for its fame, wealth and recognition namely, Yoruba, Igbo and English language movies which have relatively provided for over half of the NG?1.72 trillion (US$10 billion) revenue in 2013 and growing to NG?853.9 billion (US$5.1 billion) in 2014 as researched on Wikipedia.
Now the Hausa language movies have debuted on the DSTV’s Africa Magic Hausa channel, making Hausa language become an international brand as one of Nigeria’s leading telecommunication service providers, MTN, sponsored this year’s Kannywood Awards held at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja.
Founder and President of Kannywood Awards, Ahmad Mohammed Sarari, has expressed the intention of the Hausa movies to get better and take over the Nollywood spheres while thanking the sponsors, MTN.
“Words are not enough to thank MTN for its huge support since the inception of this award in 2013. It has really boosted the morale of the artistes and also encouraged them to do more.”
MTN has stated its desire to support the purpose of the channel on its satellite broadcast medium at the 2nd edition of the awards.
MTN’s Chief Marketing Officer, Bayo Adekanmbi said, “This is what we preach through our Be Better Campaign. It is our desire to see people getting better in whatever they do. Kannywood Awards is one of such platforms, where the lives of the people can be touched through their passion. As a company, we believe in creating excitement for the people while adding value to their lives in many positive ways”
