The fee hike issue in the Lagos State University (LASU) is still yet to be resolved. However, the students of the institution, on Wednesday, proposed a N20,000 across-board tuition fee for all faculties in the institution.
They also proposed N10, 000 acceptance fee and N500 caution fee. In a statement issued by the Students’ Union and signed by the president, Mr Temitope Nurudeen, the students also described as unrealistic, the July 6 deadline for the payment of the new fees as released by the state government.
The union also resolved that students should resume on campus with immediate effect, but strongly warned that no student should pay the fees until further notice.
The union said there was no deadline for payment now, while asking the management to suspend payment, “as we are into negotiation with the government.” Speaking to some of the students of the institution, a student told Nigeriafilms.com that the Governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola didn’t pay such large amount he proposed in the first instance which was about 250,000 as school fees during his time, why then will he want students to pay such amount.
Another student described the whole situation as unfair and it is time wasting. He said he hopes the matter is to be resolved quickly.
