Dear Housewife,
I join other world citizens of goodwill to celebrate you. You are highly appreciated for your enormous contribution towards the psycho-socio-economic and moral development of homes globally. Sanity, peace and love reigned supreme in our homes in the days of yore when you were firmly in charge. Children were actually born and bred and groomed in home training which reflected positively on our society. We are sorry for ignoring and disregarding your skill as the ultimate home maker and builder of nations. Due to economic crunch, we labeled you jobless and your esteemed profession became a term of abuse.
The astronomical cost of living, especially in Lagos Nigeria, has driven many of us husbands to place premium on only ‘ATM’ wives. Single stream of income homes can no longer sustain the bills of rent, school fees, chop money, hospital, clothing, telephone, television, electricity, waste disposal, security dues, salon, vacation, water, generator, vehicle etc.
In frustration, you abandoned your duty post and homes fell apart. Who can accuse you of negligence of duty? We miss you dearly and hope that you will one day discard your new found ‘money-chasing’ vocation and return home to shrink the number of hoodlums and harlots on our streets. Turn this hope into reality for the sake of our children who now endure the tutelage of house helps and domestic servants.
They want to spend more time with you – to see you before they retire to bed and when they wake up in the morning. They need your love, care and warm embrace. The naïve activists assume that your profession is obsolete and no longer valid. Time has proved that you are not ‘sidon dey look’ as insinuated by naysayers.
I salute your noble profession! You may not own a fat bank account but you are worth unquantifiable billions in raising world leaders. Despite your shortcomings, your advantages abound.
A toast to the ‘stay at home mom’ that has strengthened families in times past. A toast to the unsung heroine who instill family values and good character on children. Thank you for sacrificing your income, career and the spotlight for the good of all concerned.
Your admirer
