The miss world beauty pageant which, is scheduled to hold on September 28th at the Sentul International Convention Center in far away Jakarta, Indonesia may face the same rejection the event got in Nigeria back in 2002, a year after Nigeria’s Agbani Darego won the contest.
Some Islamic group known as Hizbut Tahrir in the country claim the pageant promotes acts which is against there culture, and have taken to the street to protest the staging of the event in the country.
They trooped in large numbers yesterday with placards to the office of the local organizers of the beauty pageant warning them not to stage the event in the city.
The event organizers known as MNC have pleaded with the group to allow them hold it because the time for the pageant is near and its too late to get another new location. Promising that they will not allow the girls wear bikinis during the pageant.
If it happens that the group never allows the pageant to hold, it means that the dreams of the Miss World wannabes will be shattered for the year.
Not to forget, the 2002 edition which was to hold in Nigeria, a press statement on Mohammed concerning the beauty queens which some islamic group found offensive distrupted the pageantry and it never held.
