The ever-growing Idoma entertainment industry was recently thrown into mourning and unending tears following the sad and painful demise of nine of its promising members who were involved in a ghastly motor accident.

The unfortunate incident happened along Enugu road on their way back from a performance, leaving nine of them dead instantly and four others seriously injured.

The 14-seater vehicle conveying the entertainers from Otukpo, Benue State was thrown off the road in a head-on collision with a trailer while trying to overtake a vehicle.

“Nine of the occupants traveling in the bus lost their lives in the accident, while four others were severely injured,” an eyewitness said.
The sight was so bad to behold as dismembered bodies of the victims could be seen scattered all over the place with sympathizers and rescue workers wailing, he said.

According to him, the late artistes include: Eunice Kahn, Inalegwu Alechenu, Bathy Jayboy, Ogboji John, Owoicho Agada, Pius and Moses, among others. One of the survivors eventually died on Saturday,” he added.

Asked if the industry would immortalize them, the source further said: “Since the incident, we’ve not even heard from the state government.

We cannot do it on our own, we need their help and they are not helping matters. It’s so sad that the Idoma entertainment industry has produced big names such as 2face, Bongos Ikwue, TerryG, Blackface, Ada Ameh and host of others and no attention is given to promote it,” he lamented.

Meanwhile, members of the Idoma entertainment industry have expressed shock over the death of their colleagues.

With a quaky voice, the devastated president of the Otukpo-based Hilltop Entertainment, Lawrence Chukwu, in a telephone chat with Entertainment Express said his outfit would dearly miss all the victims, especially Eunice Kahn: “Eunice was a member of Hilltop
Entertainment, Otukpo. She was a very funny person.

That was one of the things I liked about her. I remember when we shot one of our movies, Ododo K’Ihotu, directed by Dan Akpa, she kept the location lively with her witty sayings. I am short of words. It is so sad that we had to lose her and others. It is so painful”, the emotion-landen entertainer cried.

Speaking further, Chukwu said, “I am devastated. It came as a shock to me.”

According to him, Eunice, though an Indian by nationality whose mum hails from Idoma remains a mark in the young but promising industry.
“On behalf of members of our outfit I wish to commiserate with the families of the deceased. May God give them the fortitude to bear the loss,” he added.

Also speaking with EE on phone, one of the founding fathers of the Idoma movie industry, Agada Johnson, the boss of Manex Film Production said:

“I wish to commiserate with the victims’ families on behalf of my family and the entire Idoma entertainment industry. We mourn with the families on the irreparable losses and pray God to give them the grace to cope with the heavy losses.

When contacted, St. Godwin Ochola, PRO, Idomawood and director, St. Godwin Production, Otukpo, said the industry would forever miss the deceased, saying he received the news with immense sadness. He further prayed God to grant their souls eternal rest.
