Given the ambience and the caliber of celebrities that graced the events that held at Terra Kulture located on Tiamiyu Savage Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Tuesday, 23rd November, 2010, the new album released by star Fuji singer, Abass Akande Obesere, could have been a great success.
But it did fail to fly to expectations. Two factors were responsible; the anxious audience which comprised of Obesere’s fans and friends was not impressed with the Hip-Hop performance put forward by the act when he was supposed to have displayed his original ‘Asakasa’ (lewd) style for which he is popular.
The new album tagged ‘Double Revolution’ has a few Hip-Hop tracks he did with younger artistes from Stingomania Records, the recording label that handles his image and business, but fans had wanted him to lure his donors with the Fuji tracks in the album which he unwittingly failed to do and paid for painfully.
The second gaffe that added to the musician’s album flop was said to be the pairing of a popular star host, Denrele Edun, and one of Obesere’s numerous ‘managers’, called Soji, who messed up the show with his display of indignity while he was given the task to invite donours to the High Table.
This page learnt that the said Yoruba MC had resorted to embarrassing guests with his use of language that allegedly lacked decorum, although, some of the invited guests are said to be his ‘allies’. A particular female celebrity whose names were given as Toyin Kolade, was said to have been highly embarrassed when Soji allegedly began shouting her name like a voodoo priest would do in shrine.
The reality of the indecency however, dawned on the organizers when, we gathered, star guests in the persons of Lagos commissioner, Muiz Banire; lawmakers, Funmi Tejuosho, Babatunde Ogala, DMT Ghadaffi, and a host of others, stormed out of the venue at the exact time they were meant to donate for Obesere’s album.
