Come December, 2010, ace filmmaker, Chief Eddie Ugbomh (OON) will clock 70. As a necessary prelude to the expected celebration, the old boy has been busy cooking up something new for his numerous fans and viewers across the country. As a matter of fact, he is on the verge of springing a surprise on the nation.
What many people don‘t know is that Ugbomah has almost completed work on three vital projects: a documentary film titled ‘Motion Picture in Nigeria‘, a movie titled ‘Desert Warriors‘, and a third movie, ‘Treasure and Cover-up‘.
In a meeting with Life & Beat on Tuesday, he revealed that he planned to release the documentary film on Independence Day as his contribution to the celebration of Nigeria‘s 50th anniversary. ”Afterwards, the film will be broadcast on television,” he said.
Already two well-known TV stations, AIT and DSTV, have bought the rights to broadcast the film to its viewers worldwide.
According to Ugbomah, the film features interviews with not less than 20 entertainment personalities in Nigeria, including tested actors, directors, and producers, such as Chief Segun Olusola, Tunde Kelani, Enebeli Elebuwa, Tunde Alabi Hundeyin, and Justus Esiri, among several others, whose works define the various stages in the development of the television and the film industry.
Interestingly these people and others involved in the production of the documentary film volunteered in ‘Treasure and Cover-up‘ without requesting remuneration. An appreciative Ugbomah said it was their contribution to the celebration of his own birthday. Sam Dede will be playing the lead role in the film.
Also from October 3, 2010, three of Ugbomah‘s films shot on celluloid and produced in Yoruba language, ‘Omiran‘, ‘Toriade‘, and ‘Akuba‘, will be showing at the Cinema Hall of the National Arts Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos.
