Babylon International has completed its film development and training programme with the presentation of nine film projects during the Zuma Film Festival in Abuja, Nigeria in May 2010.
The project packages consist of screenplays and short promotional films shot during the workshop week.
These films were presented alongside other film projects at the Cinemas du Monde Pavilion during the International Film Festival in Cannes. Four Nigerian projects attracted producers, buyers and sales agents. They are;”The Land” by Funke Oyebanjo and Sebari Diette-Spiff, “Wahala” by Farouk Lasaki, “Letter to the Prof.” by Chike Ibekwe and “My Brothers Sin” by Jide Bello. They have qualified to be positioned for production funding.
Speaking about the four Nigerian film projects that benefited from the Babylon International development and support for funding, an elated Afolabi Adesanya, Managing Director, Nigerian Film Corporation, said, that Nigeria was proud that out of the numerous film projects entered, Nigeria came tops with four.
He said that partners and consultants to Babylon International were equally happy that Nigeria came first, because she had abundant talents, creativity, resilience and determination.
Adesanya, said that Nigerian films can competitively feature in global film fiestas, if a little more time of what he described as “doing things right” was adhered to.
Film making in Nigeria, the Nigerian Film Corporation boss said must be supported for sustainable development and to bring it to par with globally accepted standards.
Babylon International launched her 2010 programme at Berlin, Germany in February, with a residential script development workshop that brought together film makers from Europe and Africa.
The objective was to enable selected producers and writer-directors meet, compare notes, and share creative aims through the development of their industrial networks.
